About On Common Ground

On Common Ground has a simple and relatively straight forward story of how it came to be.  But many people ask, "What's with the name?" Well...

The URL for the blog was registered with Blogger in early 2005. At the time, the view from the high rise window in Boston's Downtown Crossing (where I lived) included a sliver of Boston Common, a park.  I was recently married, and "On Common Ground" seemed like a fun merging of what I would see as I looked out my window, as well as what it was like navigating the early days of marriage where compromise plays a key role. (And continued to play a key role throughout it.)

A few posts were published in those early days... And then swiftly erased as I was incredibly self-conscious about my writing.

In early 2006 though, I said, "Oh to hell with it!" and began just publishing.

I won't lie... A lot of my writing back in those early days was complete crap. Shit, I would say 95% of what I publish today is still crap.   But I am comfortable with that.  It's liberating when you free yourself of caring what others think.

Over the years there have been requests for the following in regards to this blog:
  • Guest Posts
  • Link Exchanges
  • Purchasing Link Placements
  • Product Reviews
While I am flattered by the outreach, and certainly understand the SEO and PR value, I do not allow any of the above in the content of On Common Ground.

If I link to a product, it is because I have used it of my own free mind, and not because someone has paid me or provided me a sample to try. If I link to a site in my footer, it is because I have enjoyed that site's content and am a fan.

I also do not accept advertising requests. On Common Ground is a pure space, free of any distractions, other than my ADHD mind.

I do, however, love stories. And invitations to meet new friends for coffee when they or I am in town. So if you should ever find yourself in San Diego County, don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Somebody Bring Me Some Ham,
Heather
