The Snuggery.
There is something tragic about a room that sits unused.
In a home, every space carries a current of energy, and when that current is neglected, the room feels as if it slips out of your possession... becoming something other than yours.
So I’ve done away with guest rooms. I rarely host, and I’d rather each corner of my house belong to me, steeped in my own daily rituals.
Earlier this month, I set about reclaiming one such room. I drenched the walls in a rich slate blue, returned to a local shop again and again to measure a sectional until I was satisfied there would be an exact fit, and painted an Ikea Kallax unit so it melted seamlessly into its new backdrop.
The result is a snuggery.
A secret pocket of the house, intimate and enveloping. The slate walls deepen the atmosphere while whimsical blush-colored birds take flight across the ceiling, lending a dreamy lift. It’s a space for slow mornings, quiet pages, favorite shows, and stolen hours of music.
Already, I find myself craving more time here. It's a daily invitation to pause and be present.
