Hot Take: You Don't Need A Guest Room.
I loathe having unused spaces in my house.
It's why I don't have a big house. Though I could argue 2000 square feet is still big - especially for one person.
Still, I don't like having dead spaces in my house. Places I don't go into at least a few times a week and use.
So I am thinking of 86-ing the guest room.
I have an old house. It's about 84 years old. There are still original parts of the house - such as the floors. (And until four years ago, the pipes were still original.) And because the house is so old, and has a crawl space underneath it, I dislike not bringing current active energy into every part of the house... Infusing the space with the living...
And having a guest room that gets used only in emergencies when someone needs to stay in Tucson or someone needs a room once a year to visit... It feels like a misuse of the space.
A disrespect to it, really.
And if I do ever have guests... I would want them to stay in the new part of the house... My primary suite. And I can sleep in a napping nook I created in my office closet or on the couch in the guest room. (And don't think about suggesting a Murphy bed in the room. I loathe the look of those.)
Really... I've been through with formality and the "what you are supposed to do" when it comes to domestic things going back almost 14 years.
Be welcoming to all energy... Most of all your own, I say. And this house needs more of my energy flowing through it continuously.
So I think I will make this into a TV room. And get rid of the TV in the living room.
