The Rituals That Keep Me From Coming Undone... Lately.

Flowers. Pulling a card from my Kacey Musgraves illustrated tarot deck. Carrying around my embroidered boat tote bags from LL Bean.

These have become some of the habits I do weekly to keep me from feeling completely sloth-like.

Flowers are picked up every Saturday or Sunday from Trader Joe's. I have a budget of $15 a week. Sometimes I don't spend it all because the quality of flowers is so good I can get two weeks from a bunch. I never allow an even number of stems to go into a vase. I split the bouquet up into at least two bunches with either a 7/5 split or a 7/3 split - depending on how many I have to start.

A few times a week I will pull a card from a colorfully illustrated deck I have. Never from the top, though. I keep them in a glass dish that is gilded with gold outlines and has my Sun sign on it. I will pick up the whole deck from the dish, close my eyes, and ask the deck to give me the card I need. I'll knock the top of the deck with my knuckles, and then shuffle the deck quickly. Then I will pull a card from somewhere in the middle. I view the card. Then tuck it back into the middle of the deck. I've found pulling a card and focusing on what it means to me in that moment keeps me present and not floating off in a headspace to somewhere that doesn't exist.

Which I do a lot lately.

Style-wise my purse game has shifted in the past few years. I've fallen in love with simple boat totes from LL Bean are exactly what I need... And embroidering them with cheeky words allows me to give a person a moment to pause and think about what the word could mean to me.

"Jejune" has been my favorite way to call some a "basic bitch" in a polite way. "Kingslayer" is a new one because I want people know I do not believe us to have kings in the U.S. And it will be kept that way.

Packing the bags for yoga or for errands is a critical part of my ritual whenever I leave the house.

Overall, simple things that keep me sane.
