Do We Really Need More Condos?

I don't know if these developers have been looped in... But Boston doesn't need any new condos right now.

So, turns out the plan for the old Filene's building in Downtown Crossing is to make it in to a high rise condo/luxury shop building.

But everyone knows Downtown Crossing ain't exactly the upscale shopping district that Copley Place is. Sure, there are lots of people who work in the area. And having lived in one of the posher buildings in Downtown Crossing; I can say for certain there are people living in the area who have money to spend on luxury items. But did they forget, Downtown Crossing is a hub of all the public transportation lines?

Having this mass meeting of all the T lines means one thing; bored teenagers hanging out in the area - both during and after school.

Not that I am at all against kids hanging around in the area. However, when you have people just loitering around (and it's not just school kids) with no intent to be a consumer; it can be a distraction.

But who knows? Maybe yet another posh building is what the area needs. A posh building with over-priced condos and doormen who like to hustle for that extra dollar. (Because Lord knows, the Boston-area doesn't already have enough of those.)

I was really hoping they would put a Target in the building. That would have been way cool. Just my luck.
