UK News: Frozen Embryo Case
I was listening to Radio One this afternoon and heard about this story: Cancer victim loses frozen embryo court battles.
The woman went through IVF with her ex-boyfriend in 2001 and created six frozen embryos. Prior to creating the embryos, both the man and the woman signed a consent form for the embryos being used only if they stayed together.
In the year following the creation of the embryos, the woman went through cancer treatments and had her ovaries removed. Then the couple split up, and the man exercised is right to not allow her to use the embryos. He decided that he did not want to have a child with someone he was not a partner with.
Very touchy subject. While I do sympathize with the woman for not being able to have children of her own, I side with the man on this. Especially since both people knew prior to the creation of the embryos that they both wanted to do this only if they stayed together.
UK News is very interesting to hear.
