Girl, Who Lied To You?: Met Ball 2014 Edition.

The theme of this year's Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was "Charles James." James was a designer in America who made sculptured pieces to be worn.

While I am interested in possibly taking another trip to NYC to see the exhibit on Charles James, this theme seemed to bring on a very perplexing understanding of how to translate the theme to evening wear for the Met Ball earlier this week.

Some of the choices made me wonder who told these ladies this looked good...

Sarah Jessica Parker... I've always felt the style assigned to her on Sex and the City was very "Hit or Miss." And in her real life, when she dresses casually, I tend to love it. But when she goes formal or red carpet? It's typically a disaster. And this event was no exception...

The hair and make-up do nothing to flatter her. The dress does not feel intricate or glamorous enough for the event.  And the Oscar De La Renta signature on the back really bothers me.

Lena Dunham... Another HBO star I feel is over-hyped. But she's quirky with her style, seeming to own her body shape... So I usually appreciate her choices. But this is one that just does not work...

I think it's the hair that fails to bring it in.. Because the dress itself isn't bad. It's kinda cute.

She's eccentric... That Maggie Gyllenhaal.  A little bit of a gypsy with her style. Trust me - I can totally get on board with that. But this...

The cute of the dress is sexy. The fabric? No. And the collar on the dress needs to go. If it had been in a less discombobulating fabric pattern, and sans collar, this would have been sexy.

And we've come to the big winner of the "Girl, Who Lied To You?" post...

Oh "Aunt Sandy"...  The hair... the gown... Sure, it's all in line with the theme of "structure" and "cut to your body"... But, really? Someone told you this looked good and let you leave the house?

At least with your cooking show recipes and "tablescapes" you provide us with a cocktail to numb us into being able to take it all in... It would have been great if you had extended the same courtesy to us with the viewing of this dress. And I can't even get into your hair....
