In case you were wondering, when tweeters "tweet" about Bikram yoga teacher training on Twitter, we use the hash tag: #BKTT. And the weeks leading up to a teacher training are when there is the most chatter about BKTT on Twitter.
Now that teacher training is under way (one week down, eight more to go!), there are fewer tweets about it. The people who are there don't have ideal access to the Internet. Plus, you are incredibly busy during it. You don't have time to sleep well, never mind micro-blog about the experience.
@themissus 2010 Training Schedule Spring Session: begins on April 18 to June 19, 2010...just sayin'...means nothing to me.
She was letting me know that they had posted the dates for the Spring #BKTT on Bikram's website. And it pretty much confirms for me that I will not be attending the Spring training either.
How come? Well...
*My sister gets married in early June. These current dates totally conflict with the wedding. The only way the dates would work for me is if they were moved up a few weeks. Ideally, very early April to very early June would work for me.
*The dates are subject to change. I know first hand that the dates are never set in stone until training actually starts. That's part of the reason why I am not there this Fall. I need to have a good three months completely free and clear in order for training to be possible for me.
*I don't want go to training in Las Vegas. Well, let me rephrase that... I think being able to say I went to one of the most "indulgent" cities in America to become a yoga teacher is awesome. HOWEVER, the current hotel where #BKTT is being held seems far from ideal. I don't have the complete scoop yet... But the fact that they can't set a deal for attendees to have cheap access to the Internet is insane. And unacceptable. Also, it seems like the location isn't ideal for a number of things... Like washing your clothes and grocery shopping, unless you have a car. At least in Palm Springs (which is where Fall training was supposed to be) they had easy access to all of these things.
I don't mean to sound as if I am not dedicated to the practice. I am. It's just that when I go to #BKTT, I want to have to think about as little as possible outside of dialogue and curriculum. I don't want to have to figure out how I am going to go get groceries... And how I am going to get to the nearest laundromat to wash my stinky clothes once a week.
So, it looks like Fall 2010 training will be the earliest that I am able to get to it. I think it would be kick ass if they moved it to Canada. Or to the northeastern part of the U.S. Or even internationally, to Europe.

Internet is a bit $$ but PARKING is free. THAT is a HUGE improvement. Don't need internet that often.
If Bikram could set up a permanent-ish home for training, that would make it much easier... I know that is what he tried to do with Palm Spings... But for whatever reason, it didn't work out.
I would like to attend training in a place that has been established, rather than being the first class to attend in a place.
As for the internet access, from what happenned last fall, its pretty clear that they don't really like the idea of people blogging about the teacher training experience while its going on. I think that would likely apply even more so to tweeting. So I would not be surprised if the powers that be either are completely indifferent to internet access, or even see the difficulty as a hidden bonus.
I would like to see it stay in Vegas now, too, just cause the constant moving sucks. I'm not crazy about Vegas as a permanent home, but now that it's there, might as well keep it there for more than ONE session! I don't think it's a matter of boredom, I think Bikram is just hard to satisfy! He really wants his trainees to be well-housed, well-fed, and practicing in a nice space.
I think Duffy is right on the money about the internet question. And to some extent, I agree with TPTB. When you're at training, might as well just BE AT TRAINING. (Though when I finally go, I DO want to send out weekend updates... :) )
