I'll be on my Minimoon in Portland checking out the Sigur Ros concert.
However, I love Fall in New England - especially Virginia. I'm pretty sure that might be too close to home for you. If you want tropical, you could still get away with Hawaii (Oahu). Lastly, you could extend your summer by heading out to California and do the Napa thing. It's still warm out here in the Fall and Napa will be gorgeously green.
I don't get to take much vaca time but over the past couple of years I've gone to these two places and really enjoyed myself.
1.) Denver - The mile high city has a lot to offer. A really great music scene, small dive-y bar scene and a thriving art community. I've always enjoyed my time there.
2.) Atlanta - My betrothed is southern and well, I'm not. But it's a lot of fun. We went to the cokecola museum, the huge aquarium, even saw a baseball game at turner field. Tons of small local fun shops and the food, oh good lord, the food is so good!
The place I've been dying to visit is Austin, TX. I hear it's a really fun little town. But eh, I like to stay close to urban centers but that's just the kind of girl I am. Good luck with your search!
It's a relatively quick trip from Boston and there is so much to do! Great food, great shopping, fabulous architecture and the weather will be gorgeous in the fall.
The Great Smokey Mountains! If you love heritage crafts, regional music, good ole fashioned story telling, camp fires, beautiful scenery, or just a nice cozey cabin and some good country cookin' try Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Fitness and adventure spa vacations will combine the best of both worlds, luxury and adventure. After a vigorous workout you could enjoy a relaxing massage and facial. Keeping your body in shape does not have to be all work and no play with fitness spa vacations.

What about Santa Fe?? One of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and ZERO humidity. Lovely galleries, restaurants, and scenery.
