Driving and Multi-tasking.

I really have no desire to own a car again.

I came across this article on Boston.com about a new study that shows most auto accidents are due to driver distraction.

The biggest distractions include:

Cell Phones (no surprise)
Adjusting the Radios
Putting on Makeup (mascara and lipstick)
Blackberry
iPods
Entertaining Children

People are too attached to their cars. They spend so much time in them everyday, they're like a second home. So everyone wants to be able to continue with their life while they are driving. People want to continue working. They want to continue that conversation they started. They want their kids to watch DVDs to keep them quiet. They want to grab that CD that slid under the passenger seat; because they can't bear the thought of continuing in the car for another 20 minutes without their favorite music.

This study illustrates that most auto accidents can be prevented. But even so, I'll just take public transportation and walk everywhere. It's silly to own a car if you live in the city of Boston. (It's not silly if you live outside of the city.)
