Barneys... You disappoint me, kind of.

After I got over not being on the invite list for the opening of the new Barneys in Copley (tear), I decided to buck up and go over there any ways to case the joint.

No. I'm not thinking of stealing. (I've never stolen anything in my life... Except a co-worker's poker chips at a pretend casino night.) I wanted to see what this Barneys (which is much smaller than the real Barneys) had to offer those of us with some disposable income.

First off, I will admit, the place looks (and smells) 100-times better than the old Loews theater that was there last year. And I like that there isn't an escalator connecting the two floors the store resides on; rather there is a column of steps instead. Everything is bright and feels organic.

However, I was disappoint about a few thing....

First, the women's shoe department (I had heard) was supposed to take up 4500 square feet. However, it certainly didn't feel like it was that big. And the selection of shoes are similar to what I can find at Neiman and Saks. Infact, the only like I saw them display that I can't get at either of the two stores is the Barneys "Co-op" line. This is a good line. But I need more selection.

Also, on the second floor there is a huge wall display of jeans, jeans and more jeans. But, most of the jeans were Seven Jeans. I think to buy Seven Jeans today would be a bit "passe." I mean, they've been around for ages, everyone has bought at least one pair... I'm not opposed to them carrying Seven Jeans, but it shouldn't be their main jean. They did also have James Jeans and Salt Denim (which I haven't seen anywhere else)... But they didn't have any Paige Denim. WTF? Enough with the Seven Jeans!

On the plus side, however, they do have a really great variety of designers I haven't seen "in-store" anywhere else... Including Behnanz Sarapfour, Rochas, Lanvin and (of course) Barneys Co-op (which is more my price range.)

So, basically, if you're working with my miniscule budget, you're going to find the same stuff available at Barneys that you can find elsewhere already. But, if you have more $$$ to throw down, Barneys has unique and tasty offerings for you!
