So That's What Santa Has Under His Coat!

Yesterday was a good day to wander out and about the South End. It was sunny with a crispness in the air.

After hitting the SoWa Holiday market, my pal ("Elle") and I made our way through the shops in the South End... Hitting up places neither one of us had been to in a while.

After the window shopping, we decided to stop in at the Buttery for a hot drink and a snack. However, everyone seemed to have this idea too, so there were no tables (not even a bar stool) for us to plop down on to relax.

We wandered outside, in hopes of spotting a bench. No such luck though. The only option available to us was a set of Adirondack chairs outside the laundry mat across the street.

So we swept the ice off of them and plopped down. It was an excellent seat for "people watching." We got to see folks wander in and out of the Buttery. We saw people walking their dogs. We saw people hitting up the same shops we had just been into. And we even saw something very "seasonal"...

"Elle!" I quietly enthused, "Check out the dude behind you, over there."

Nodded towards a fuchsia Ford Escort (circa 1994). Elle turned around and saw what had caught my eye...

It was Santa. Well, it was a dude dressing up like Santa, right on the street.

He had just gotten out of his fuchsia car. He had no shirt on. But he did have Santa's pants on. And the boots too. And he did have a big ol' belly like Santa. Only his was dark and furry. We watched Santa throw on his beard, wig and hat. THEN he put on his Santa coat, with NOTHING underneath it. (I guess Santa doesn't get cold.)

Then we saw him grab his sack, and march into the church on Union Park Street.

I guess I have to accept that even Santa has rough days. The reindeer must have had the day off. That must explain the fuchsia Ford Escort.

I don't know if there's anything that can explain the big belly with with a dark coat of fur.
