Picture Of The Day: How Canadians Strike.

A garbage workers strike has hit us here in Toronto. That means garbage will not be picked up. And that means that even when you are walking down the street and are looking for a place to dump your empty coffee cup, you will be shit out of luck.

But, at least they were kind enough to give us warning that they are striking...

I find this, actually, very nice of them. This morning, the workers went around my street taping signs to every garbage can. They then wrapped the openings up so that you couldn't easily get anything into it.

No one wants garbage rotting on the street if the strike goes quite a while. I don't think you would see this kind of strike "pre-work" being done in most U.S. cities.

That would definitely not happen in the US. Well, Seattle. Maybe. They practically fine you if you don't have a compost pile.

I hope this is over soon. Shades of 2002, when the garbage was piled two stories high in Chinatown alleyways and the whole city became a stinky dump... I'd never seen a rat in Toronto until that summer.
