Brunching It: Gaslight.

This weekend, The Husband and I are giving Gaslight a second go for dinner. It seems as though they have added a few items to their menu. And I am sure they have worked out the service kinks we were not enthused with a few months back.

However, while perusing the dinner menu, I came across the brunch menu.... And YUMMY!

I must hit this place up for brunch sometime ASAP!

The brunch menu has got a very "Bathlazar" feel to it... (As one co-worker and I both noted...) But who cares? I'm dying for a kickass pain au chocolate and cappuccino!

Maybe Sunday morning...

Wait, but how was the dinner?
I went during their opening and was kinda disappointed and haven't been back either.

Same here sista!

I went to dinner there after they opened and was very disappointed.

The second-try dinner I was referring to there will be tomorrow night (Saturday). I am keeping my fingers crossed that I am not disappointed a second time.

Don't go with super high expectations and you will be pleased; that's my general rule of thumb at Gaslight, and honestly, it’s grown on me. I love the ambiance there, and brunch is especially lively (the service is still sub-par tho). The main dishes on the brunch menu - eggs, French toast, crepes - are "good" but definitely not "spectacular". The beet salad is tasty as well if you want to sway away from your typical brunch fare. Oh, and their Blood Mary's - if you tire from your Pinot Noir - are fabulous! So, my advice would be don't get too jazzed about your second attempt and you should be set. Enjoy!

Just had brunch there on 12/30. Food was good and service was fine. I think the point is that they are a 'Brasserie', meaning reasonable prices and basic (French...) food. Don't expect too much and it's a nice enough place.

ps- can't believe I'm defining or defending 'brasserie', but hey, I heard that recently...

I'm going to be honest here, and I know I'm not in the majority with this view, but why, in Boston, can't we go with high expectations or not expecting too much? This is what I think is wrong with dining in Boston in general, we often (and me included) excuse average as acceptable. There are places in Chinatown that make fresh homemade wonton noodle soups, places in Brookline that make papaya salad that could knock your socks off and they aren't doing it for a lot of money either. Maybe I'm wrong here but I'd gladly pay a few dollars more for kick-ass!
