Day 20: There's No Crying In Bikram!

Yeah... Weird day.

I found it to be extremely difficult in the heat today. Normally, I can suck it up and just accept that, "Yeah, it's hot in here." It's supposed to be.

But today, I had a bit of a difficult time with the heat. I must not have hydrated properly before class. My throat was an itching/burning nightmare the entire time. And then something even odder happened...

I cried.

During locust pose. For some reasons, tears were coming out of my eyes. Not super strong tears... But definitely tears. I was crying. And I had no idea why.

Has anyone else cried during Bikram? It's easy to camouflage it as just sweat coming down your face. So I've never seen anyone else cry.

Day 21 tomorrow!

Oh man, I just laughed out loud at your subject line - "there's no crying in baseball!!?!" HAH.

I've never cried in a class but I've definitely seen it at least once. Apparently it's just one of those things. I know at training there are people crying all OVER the place in classes!! I have heard stories from people who you would NOT expect who are like "yeah, last week of training I broke down sobbing with my friend after camel, it was so weird..."

If you want to see a REAL sob-fest, you should be there in August when i take my last yoga class in Boston!! It could be a shit-show...

Missus! - I've cried a few times before. Nearly sobbed, actually, going into rabbit. Because of personal stuff coming to the forefront of a posture, but also out of nowhere during a difficult class, during spine strengthening especially. Did you ask the instr.? They will tell you it's somewhat normal...although I've never seen anyone else cry either. I'm just a sap sometimes! (I'm going thru breakup #2 with bf right now, I'll probably cry again soon...). I'm enjoying reading about your 30-day progress!! :-)

Thanks J & Lulu...

I've heard of people crying in Camel/Rabbit pose... And that makes sense. Those are the two deepest back bends and forward bends in the series.

But locust pose????

WTF?

Not Bikram (haven't done Bikram), but Svaroopa yoga, yes, quite often, especially in really deep classes. Instructor says that chest opening (and therefore heart opening) poses can do that. You're loosening up the emotional center of your body, and so your emotions are loosening up, too. Perfectly normal.

Locust... well... I dunno. Maybe you cried cause full locust comes next...

I did almost PUKE in locust pose once!!! :-D Had a zucchini muffin less than 2 hours before class - not thinking about time. Locust pose - I tasted my zucchini again. EEEWWW

That's all I got, lady...

I cried once in savasana. I just want to inform you:

Bikram yoga is NOT good for you. It forces your body by using heat into postures that it is not ready for and can have long lasting, damaging effects. The only reason it feels like its good for you is because you feel exhausted, drained and defeated. This style gives yoga a bad name.

Bikram yoga is limited to 26 poses. They are the same every time! There exists 100s of yoga poses that target different muscle groups and when using them in variety is the only way to get a total body workout. Please, do the research! Bikram is taking advantage of yoga’s good name and claim to medical benefits and not following through.

I am a certified hatha yoga instructor and experimented with bikram for a year until finally injuring by lower back. I know many others who have been injured and never seemed to get any stronger, thinner, or more balanced. If you are looking for a workout, try ashtanga–if you’re looking for relief from: stress, anxiety, depression, hypertension, sciatica; try any other form of yoga!! If you like the heat, which was my favorite part, try heated vinyasa flow. Your body and mind will thank you!

100% DISAGREE with Jillian.... Bikram has changed my life!!! And yes, I sobbed today right after camel.... first time ever. And, like you, just played it off as sweat. I was uber uncomfortable today. But, today was the first time I've ever been in the front right RIGHT at the mirror.... Maybe that had something to do with my jag. Whatever... I love bikram. It really has brought light to my life, and some serious tone and strength to my body.... period!!!!!! Keep rockin it!!
